The one with the abbreviations

There are so many different types of jobs in the world; accounting, engineering, consultation, and of course there is IT. Now, to be in an industry that is identified by abbreviations, you sort of know what to expect from it. Everything in IT is all about abbreviations. Jobs are identified with abbreviations, certifications are identified with abbreviations, in fact a majority of references in IT are all abbreviations. Of course I am not ignoring the fact that abbreviations are being used in other industries as well. It is just that since I am an IT professional, I see the effects most in IT.

Let's start with the most common ones, like LAN or WAN. It has become such a norm right now that people speak of these abbreviations as they would any other word. Antivirus has now been shortened to AV, which would hold a totally non-related meaning if put in another perspective. Then there's technology like SSL, VPN, SSL VPN, IPSec VPN, OLAP, DLL, and the jibber-jabs and the wigga-wops... the list goes on and on and on.

Ok, using abbreviations in technical jargons for whatever industry is pretty common. But in IT, abbreviations also come in when describing jobs. SEs, APs, SAs, PMs. You don't see people calling Accounts Executives AE do you? And how do you use abbreviations to represent Auditors? As?

Then of course there is the well-known IT certifications. You've got the MCSE, MCSP, CCIE, CCSA, JNCIS-FWV. Every alphabet from a to z is there somewhere. And get this, people are starting to put all this abbreviations in their name cards just like people who have masters degrees or something. If you are not in IT, and you do go out with people in IT, chances are half the time you do not know what they are saying and the other half the time you will be trying to catch up with all the alphabets flying around.

Eventually, this is how IT people will be speaking,

Hi my name is WPAW and I am an SE from TSM and I graduated from UPM with a BECC. I am JNCIS-FWV certified and hope to finish my MIT before I RIP....

Now you figure it out...
